Common Problems
Water doesn’t drain out.
This could be one of a number of things: A bad drain pump; control board; pressure switch; timer; door switch; or actuator. Call our experienced technicians to diagnose the problem for you!
Water is draining out of the machine.
This can be caused by an improperly placed drain hose or a puncture in the drain hose.
The washer wont spin.
On a top load washer, this can be the result of a bad hub or clutch. On a front load washer, a bad spider-arm or motor control board. However, in both cases the washer could be not cycling properly which is caused by a number of parts. An experienced technician is definitely needed if your washer is not spinning.
My washer is unbalanced.
Before calling a technician, please make sure your machine is level on your floor. Not just firmly planted, but level. Then make sure your clothes are evenly distributed within your washer. Some machines advertise that they self-correct, but nothing beats reaching in and re-distributing the clothes by hand.
Bad suspension rods, a control board, or a spider-arm/bearing could be the culprit if the machine is to blame.
Water is leaking from the washer.
Water will typically leak from the water inlet valves, the drain hoses, the door gasket, or the soap dispenser sleave.
Things You can do:
Does your washer sound like a freight train or jet engine? Did it sound like this before your current problem? Then you likely have a bad bearing or spider-arm. These are machine-ending problems! They can often lead to a money pit of bad parts. The washer’s drive shaft and transmission often fail when the bearing fails. These are very expensive parts with extensive labor costs. You are better off getting a new washer if it sounds like this.
Check to make sure you’re not overloading the washer. A top load washer should only be filled up to where the metal basket stops. A Samsung or a GE can have deceptive max fill line because they have an additional seven inches of plastic between the lid and the basket!
If all the water isn’t draining out of the tub, you could have a negative pressure situation. Make sure the drain tub is raised up over the top of the cabinet before tipping into the drain pipe. If your drain entrance is too low, water will remain in the bottom portion of the drum when your wash cycle has ended. If the drainpipe is laying on the ground, water won’t stay in the washer and will drain out as soon as it enters the unit.
Does the door gasket of your front load washer have a foul odor? Make sure it stays dry between washes. Leave the door cracked or dry the gasket with a towel. Marine 31 is recommended for cleaning. If the door isn’t sealing properly, clean the underside of the door glass with Windex. Hair stuck between the seal and the door will cause micro gaps where water will leak through. Replacing a door gasket can cost $400, so take care of it!
